CLASS COUNCIL MEETING NOTES

CLASS OF ‘61 REUNION COMMITTEE

June 17, 2009

Attendance: JoAnn Berridge, Karen Malmstrom Eckhart, Concetta Jorgenson, Nancy Laytham-Jorgensen, Bruce Kane, Joy Holmes Maguire, Dave Melander, Dori Robbins, Jim Stonehouse, Jim Trembath

Arik Thormahlen, Director, Class Giving, CAA, UCBerkeley.

The meeting was held by an online conference call at from 4 to 5 PM. It was chaired by Permanent Class President, Dori Robbins.

Searching for Alumni with the Social Networks and on the Web.

Bruce Kane encouraged committee members to go to the website he has established for us. He asked us to post our own personal information as well as posting any photos we may have from our Cal years. www.kaneprod.com/Classof61. Joy was able to post information on Plaxo and LinkedIn and is working on Facebook.

Dori said she had read that the Cal Monthly’s Class Notes will be transferred online. (This was subsequently confirmed for Arik by CAA. Joani Carpenter also subsequently provided us with a contact for posting notes and was told there will be a “Class Reunion ” section where we can post notes about our 50th.) Arik also said that “Class based Web Pages” will be available by our Reunion year. When this happens, we will be granted access to update our class site. Bruce said when the “Class Web Page” is up on @Cal, he will be able to transfer his website there. Again, he is asking Committee members to go online to our website (see last paragraph) and post your email addresses and any reunion suggestions.

In regards to the University’s class email database, Arik can search by class for current email addresses. Arik will create the “Class AlumniGroup” from his list. He will work on this over the summer. We are hoping we will be able to send out e-mails via that avenue.

Dave asked about the lists of Alumni Clubs on the Cal Alumni site. Bruce and Dori have contacted the individual presidents of each regional alumni group and asked them to check for members of our class; this yielded a few registrations on our website. There are many other groups listed on the @cal site as well.

Class Logo

Logo examples can be posted as well on Bruce’s class website. We need a logo for a new Class banner. The University has several Cal logos. Joy and Dori will work on this project.

Date and Site of Reunion

We need to decide this. The question arose if we NEED to connect to a game date. Memorial Stadium is under reconstruction and will be closed. The game will be relocated to the Coliseum or Candlestick and TV coverage possibly could start at 5 PM and finish at 8 PM. It will be different than previous years.

Joy and JoAnn suggested offering a possible “weekend of events” such as lectures, games, family events, cultural events in San Francisco , sail on the Bay, historical tour of the Univ. with the University historian, architectural tour of Cal . Alumni can choose what they want to do. Jim Stonehouse knows the owner of Commodore Yachts. Please post your ideas on our current web site www.kaneprod.com/Classof61 . Joy proposed using “Monkey Survey”, an online poll, to get preferences from class alums. A link can be posted on the class website.

Other

Active fundraising usually starts the year before the reunion. It was mentioned that Bill Ausfahl was head of the Berkeley Foundation this past year. He headed our fundraising efforts for the 45th, along with Pete Frazier, Jim Stonehouse, and others.

Dori said we need nominations for Alumni of the Year and asked us to start thinking of whom we wish to nominate. The names for 2011 will be due Spring 2010. Information about the nomination process will be forthcoming.

Respectfully submitted,

Nancy Laytham-Jorgensen
